Methylene chloride (methylene chloride) is a colorless, clear solvent with a slightly sweet chloroform-like odor and is highly volatile, which is used in the preparation and manufacture of many products. This compound is a derivative of methane molecule and chlorine is placed in it instead of two hydrogens and it is an aprotic and polar solvent. In particular, it is used as a solvent, decolorizer, and to remove caffeine from coffee and tea.
